Kuta is an iPhone app for treadmill interval running. It never connects to the machine: distance is computed from pace and time, so per the developer it works on any treadmill without sensors or extra hardware. It ships with 23 preset workouts — the Norwegian 4×4, 800m repeats, Kenyan Hills, tempo runs, the 12-3-30 incline walk. You enter your marathon, half, threshold, 10K and 5K paces once, and every session is set at speeds for your fitness. The screen shows target speed, remaining time and what’s next in large type, with the countdown continuing on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

The free tier covers all presets, voice cues, pace calibration and history. A one-time $5.99 Pro unlock adds the workout builder: describe a session in plain words (“a fun 45-minute 10K threshold run”) and the app drafts the structure at your paces — on device via Apple Intelligence on newer iPhones, through a built-in planner on older ones. Pro also adds unlimited custom workouts and full history. Everything stays local: no account, no cloud, fully offline. Apple Health sync is opt-in and write-only; Strava gets pasteable description text rather than automatic sync. There is no Apple Watch app.

Why no subscription? Kuta explicitly contrasts itself with running apps charging around $20 a month. The download is free, and the only purchase is the one-time $5.99 Pro unlock — no trials, no recurring charges according to the developer. The site mentions no other third-party costs.
