Wordmate is a vocabulary trainer for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch covering 44 languages, 14 practical topics, 84 units and three levels. Every English word comes with an example sentence, and on iPhone and iPad text-to-speech reads the pronunciation aloud.
Interface and learning language are chosen separately, and progress is kept independently for each language you study. You can save words to favorites and track progress with a learning streak. The interactive Home Screen widget and the watch app let you view a word, move on or save it. The app works offline and requires no account; the developer states there are no third-party ads and no tracking, with learning data staying on the device.
Why no subscription? One App Store purchase at $8.99. All 44 languages, every level, the widget and the Watch experience are included from the start, with no in-app purchases or paid upgrades. Family Sharing is supported.
