PX7 GrooveFile

PX7 GrooveFile is a macOS app for cataloging vinyl, CDs and cassettes. You scan barcodes with a compatible USB or Bluetooth scanner, the Mac camera or an iPhone via Continuity Camera; Scan Session keeps the camera open and queues incoming barcodes while lookups are still running. Each copy keeps its own condition, location, purchase price, tags, notes and photos (front, back, label, matrix/runout, damage), and different pressings of the same album are never merged. On top of that: tracks and credits, matrix/runout notes for pressing identification, Wantlist, sales, loans, Smart Collections, a Box Planner, CSV import with column mapping, and export to CSV, Markdown or a dated PDF report.

Working data stays local on the Mac. Search by artist, title and catalog number uses MusicBrainz, with Discogs data optional. Worth knowing up front: Discogs value estimates require your own personal Discogs access token (free) — MusicBrainz search works without it. Estimates older than six hours are marked as stored, and manually entered values stay protected. GrooveFile is not affiliated with Discogs. The iPhone companion’s phone editing, Multi-Mac Sync and complete iPhone backups are labelled beta by the developer, and physical multi-Mac and iPhone recovery testing is still pending — keep an independent Mac backup, and a separate pre-upgrade backup if you may need an older library format.

Why no subscription? GrooveFile is €39 once, with a seven-day trial, free updates through version 2.x and one app-specific key usable on up to seven Macs. No recurring fee to keep access to your own collection database. Requires macOS 14 or later.
