Pawnpetal is a chess app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It offers 72 interactive lessons in the Skill Garden, covering board and pieces, openings, tactics, strategy and endgames, plus daily checkmate puzzles in one, two or three moves and an optional mate-in-five Challenger.
You can play three offline bot levels, share one device, connect over Nearby, or challenge Game Center friends in correspondence and live games with 10 minutes per player. Saved games can be continued, replayed and reviewed; PGN games can be imported and your own moves exported. Local play and lessons need no Pawnpetal account, while Game Center play requires internet. Available in 20 languages with optional private iCloud sync.
Why no subscription? Core chess, all lessons and daily puzzles are free and ad-free. Optional cosmetics such as piece sets, logos and reactions are permanent purchases, and the developer states there are no subscriptions.
